Two Traps in Hearing God

2 Traps in the Pursuit of God’s Voice

Comparison:

Sometimes, the pursuit of hearing God's voice can feel like chasing after the wind, especially when we compare ourselves with others who seem to hear so clearly and frequently. However, our journey with God is unique, and it's crucial that we remain faithful in our pursuit. Just like in any relationship, our connection with God deepens over time. We have to be patient, persistent, and open to learning and growing.

Unwillingness to Obey:We know how important it is to be able to discern God’s voice and be confident knowing what He is saying to us. But Oswald Chambers has this to say, “We show how little we love God by preferring to listen to His servants only. We like to listen to personal testimonies, but we do not desire that God Himself should speak to us. Why are we so terrified lest God should speak to us? Because we know that if God does speak, either the thing must be done or we must tell God we will not obey Him.” ~ Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

Exodus 20:19: Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.”

"If you do not know how to recognize the voice of God, you are in trouble at the heart of your Christian life.” ~ Henry Blackaby
